Problem 1

  • tommy b: 4C – If I say 3S pard may pass, js in H misstates length, Gerber will let me sign off at 4S OR look for slam if i like pard’s response!
  • Dick Dixon: 2H – After transfer ask for aces
  • Deb Wastle : 3H – Not giving up on slam.

Problem 2

  • tommy b: 4S – Pard is 5/4 or 6/5 in majors – if we have a Moysian fit I prefer the 5-2 fit in spades
  • Tony Farr: Pass – Surely pass if forcing after the redouble.
  • Deb Wastle : Double – Very tough. Suggesting penalty. If P has a lousy opener I expect she’ll bid again and I’ll pass.

Problem 3

  • tommy b: 3H – Forcing bid asking pard to describe her hand.

Problem 4

  • tommy b: 4H – 8 card fit – ltc sez game is possible, slam unlikely
  • bill birney: Pass – you might make three hearts. you might win the Lotto too.
  • James Macdonnell: 4C – If North answers 4 spades (2 aces) that can stand as the contract but if he bids 4NT (3 aces) a Spade slam looks quite possible, especially with West leading towards South’s King of Diamonds.

Problem 5

  • tommy b: 2S – support cue bid, let’s see what else pard has
  • bill birney: 3D – partner must hold at least three diamonds, so the partnership holds at least 9. 3D is preemptive.
  • Deb Wastle : Double – No panic to preempt diamonds: LHO passed and RHO did not double, so it still could be our hand.
